ABOUT THE CAROLINA TARWHEELS
The Carolina Tarwheels promote safe bicycling and lead weekly rides and events throughout the year.

Open the tabs below to learn more about rides in the area, our safety protocols, and how to ride with us.
There are (at least) three great ways to get out on your bike:
-
Carolina Tarwheels conducts weekly road cycling and occasional gravel rides.
If you want to ride with us, visit our Meetup page.
-
If you want to strike out on your own, we have a deep archive of rides we've mapped out.
They can be found on our Ride with GPS (RWGPS) page.
-
If you are a mountain biker, check out our friends at Triangle Off-Road Cycling (TORC).

The Tarwheels endorse the group cycling guidelines recently developed by BikeWalkNC and representatives of cycling groups across the state. If you have not done so recently, please review Group Bicycling Best Practices: Skills and Techniques. We believe following these guidelines will greatly increase both the safety and enjoyment of your ride.

A benefit of riding with the Carolina Tarwheels is that we carry insurance for incidents that happen on our rides. Our insurance requires all riders to sign liability waiver.
To join us on a ride, you need to sign our release and liability waiver. Members must sign this once per year. Non-members must sign before each ride.

BikeFest is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, 2026 in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
You'll experience scenic rural vistas along quiet country roads. Historic farmsteads and rustic churches. The pastoral heritage of the Piedmont. While you're at it, you'll help promote cycling in North Carolina.

Rides of 35, 45, 62 and 100 miles allow you to choose how to spend your day.
